Only a tiny group of disparate souls stand in its path - the alien Technician Zhe, the genecrafted warriors Abdulafia and CeeAn, Subcity miscreants Jaq and Kaito... and other, even stranger allies thrown together by chance.
And while the city is torn apart from within, an even greater peril is falling in toward the sun, the cold, calculating planet-killer Everdark, herald of the Motherbrain...
'Chains of Tartarus' concludes the story begun in 'Elysian Fields'in spectacularly destructive fashion, creating an apocalypse-opera that makes Gotterdammerung look like a teddy bears' picnic.
