β¦ Synopsis
Factors that may influence experimental measurements of osmotic pressure are analysed. Measurements with new membranes in the osmometer show that a period of 5(~60 hr is necessary for the membrane relaxation. The influence of the porosity of the membrane upon the values of M, and A 2 for polydisperse samples, and especially for samples with relatively low molecular weight, is discussed. For polymer/polymer/solvent ternary systems prepared by mixing the individual polymer solutions, it is necessary to allow more than 20 hr for "maturing of the solutions".
