โœฆ Synopsis

The risks of parallel operation

The successful running of centrifw gal pumps in parallel means mow itoring the flow individually, and having the facility for individual unit shutdown at a preset low flow point. In the first article of a new series, Stan Shiels explains why, and illustrates how to avoid the danger of premature or frequent pump fai~ ures in this configuration.

There are three prime areas of concern when operating centrifugal pumps in parallel:

โ€ข Hydraulic shut-off of one of the pumps.

โ€ข High flow induced cavitation in one of the pumps.

โ€ข Prolonged operation of one of the pumps at a flow below its minimum acceptable continuous flow.

## Understanding the essentials of centrifugal pump reliability There are a few essential tasks which must be undertaken if reliable operation of a centrifugal pump is to be achieved. Stan Shiels argues that it's not sufficient to complete a few of these essential jobs -the omission of any one ele
