โฆ Synopsis
The risks of parallel operation
The successful running of centrifw gal pumps in parallel means mow itoring the flow individually, and having the facility for individual unit shutdown at a preset low flow point. In the first article of a new series, Stan Shiels explains why, and illustrates how to avoid the danger of premature or frequent pump fai~ ures in this configuration.
There are three prime areas of concern when operating centrifugal pumps in parallel:
โข Hydraulic shut-off of one of the pumps.
โข High flow induced cavitation in one of the pumps.
โข Prolonged operation of one of the pumps at a flow below its minimum acceptable continuous flow.

## Understanding the essentials of centrifugal pump reliability There are a few essential tasks which must be undertaken if reliable operation of a centrifugal pump is to be achieved. Stan Shiels argues that it's not sufficient to complete a few of these essential jobs -the omission of any one ele
