โœฆ Synopsis

perioperative plasma osmolality and serum sodium values were compared with those values in patients with transient metabolic encephalopathy but no CPM at autopsy, no consistent association was observed, and values differed greatly. We conclude that CPM in orthotopic liver transplantation frequently is manifested by altered levels of consciousness alone, mimicking metabolic encephalopathy. Copyright 0 1996 by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases alcohol abuse, plasma osmolality, serum sodium, magnesium, ammonia, and cholesterol concentrations, liver function test results, and use of immunosuppressants.

The serum sodium and plasma osmolality measurements were obtained before surgery and up to 14 days after surgery. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and autopsy findings were reviewed.

Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and perfusion of central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) have been rarely reported. One case of CPM that developed after liver transplantation was analyzed with serial diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), MRS and MR perfusion. During the acute phase, a pontine lesion sh
