The neuropeptide pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) is present in many regions of the adult and developing brain as are receptors for PACAP. PACAP stimulates different signalling cascades in neurons, involving cAMP, MAP kinase, and calcium. These characteristics suggest that
