To v/cs. of Prof. Marburg. (2) The indications are that there is a considerable difference chemically in the material in different parts of the beam. (3) The appearance of the fractured pieces indicates a considerable variation in the density of the material throughout the beam, due probably to the work of rolling. The thin beams show material superior to that of the thick beams.
