Fed-batch cultures of Trichoderma reesei RUT-C30 attained quasi-steady state conditions, in respect of biomass concentration and enzyme production rate, commensurate with a specific cell maintenance coefficient of 0.029 g cellu1ose.g biomass;lh-l and specific cellulase production rate of between 9.6 and11.9 IU (filter paper activity1.g biomass. -lh-1. A maximum enzyme yield of 57 iU.mlwl at an overall productivity of 201 IU.LTih-1 resulted from a cellulose feed rate of l.Og.LYlh-l.

A 150-litre pilot scale fermentation using Trichoderma reesei (RUT C-30) for the production of cellulase is described in which a cellulase yield of 12.0 IU.mlTl (filter paper activity) and productivity of 75 IU.LTlhTl were achieved.
