This collection of reviews is dedicated to Regents Professor Victor J. Hruby on the occasion of his 65 th birthday. Victor Hruby has made seminal contributions in the field of peptides, peptidomimetics, and their biological activities with more than 1000 publications. He has been the recipient of the Merrifield Award of the American Peptide Society, the Ralph T. Hirschmann Award of the American Chemical Society, and has been honored with a Doctor Honorus Causa from the Free University of Brussels.
Victor's 65 th birthday celebration saw hundreds gather at the University of Arizona in Tucson on 29 th October 2004 for the 1 st Hruby Symposium on Chemical Biology. The program included invited talks, a poster session, and a dinner banquet that were attended by Victor's numerous friends, colleagues, students, and collaborators.
