โฆ Synopsis
Sumnary:
From the methylated polar extract of (Cecropiaceae)' stem bark of Musanga cecropioides a novel triterpenic A-ring seco derivative has been obtained and the structure elucidated by spectroscopic methods.
Many highly oxidised tetracyclic seco triterpen<)ids have been reported in the families Meliaceae, Cneoraceae and Burseraceae2.
Recently, a review article dealing with pentacyclic seco triterpenoids from some twenty higher plant families has also been published3. But so far, no such compound has yet been notified within the Cecropiaceae. Musanga cecropioides, a member of the above taxon, has yielded tormentic, 2-acetyltormentic, 3-acetyltormentic and euscaphic acids 4 .
