This Special Issue of Chirality contains papers presented at CD'99, the 7th International Conference on Circular Dichroism, held in Mierki, Poland on the 22-25 August 1999, under the chairmanship of J. Gawronski and J. Frelek. This series of conferences emerged from a number of NATO Advanced Study Institutes held in Europe in the sixties and seventies, culminating in the 1st Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1985, led by G. Snatzke and N. Berova. These CD conferences continued in Europe, in 1987 in Budapest (M. Kajta ´r), then Prague in 1989 (P. Malon and P. Pancoska), and in Bochum in 1991 (G. Snatzke)
