✦ Synopsis
Bleeding from benign gastrointestinal tumours accounts for only 0.6 percent of cases of haematemesis'. Cavernous haemangiomas of the gastrointestinal tract are rare, their incidence being lower than that of adenomas, fibromas and leiomyomas'. The oesophagus is the least common site of vascular tumours in the entire gastrointestinal tract. A case of one of these exceptionally unusual tumours is described, together with the findings on magnetic resonance imaging.
