✦ Synopsis
The cationic transannular polymerization of cis,cis-l,5-cyclooctadiene (COD) initiated by Ziegler-Natta catalysts of the type Cp2MCI: (M = Ti, Zr, HI) with various alkylaluminium compounds, such as Et3A1, Et2AIC1 and Et3A12CI 3, was studied. The order of activity of these catalysts depends on the metal and the cocatalyst and was found to be: Ti > Zr > Hf and Et3AI2CI 3 > Et2A1C1 > Et3AI. K-/,~ of the resulting oligomers are ~800-1800. By means of tH-NMR, i.r., GPC and TG/DTG analyses, the transannular character of the polymers was also confirmed.
