✦ Synopsis

Akstraet--Phenacyltriphenyl phosphonium salts containing the anions SbF 6 and PF 6 are useful photoinitiators for cationic polymerization of cyclohexene oxide; photosensitization by the addition of pyrene and N-methylphenothiazine enhances the rate of polymerization. Experimental results are presented to show the effects of photolysis time, photosensitization, initiator concentration and the anion on the rate of polymerization in dichloromethane at 25 Β°.

The photopolymerization of penta-erythritol tetra-glycidyl ether (initiator Degacure KI-85) was studied by a du Pont 910 type DSC. From our experimental results the following conclusions can be drawn: (1) During the cationic polymerization reaction the lifetime of the initiating centers are long com
