Cation exchangers have been prepared from cork charcoal obtained at temperatures of 300, 400, 500, and 600Β°C by sulphonating with sulphuric acid and 10 and 20% oleum at 80, 100, and 120Β°C. Some of the exchangers obtained had an exchange capacity around 2 meq g-1 and very high thermal stability.
