✦ Synopsis


Vibrational spectrum analysis was used to study the cation arrangement in the complex perovskites. The transition from the ideal perovskite structure to complex compositions with a pair of the A or B cations, such as ABO 3 or leads to drastic changes in the Raman spectra. Correlation between a change in the A 1¿2 º A 1¿2 / BO 3 AB 1¿2 º B 1¿2 / O 3 , Raman spectra and the recent structure analysis by advanced direct methods is discussed for some important "modelÏ compounds, such as relaxor ferroelectrics (PST), (PMN) and PbSc 1¿2 Ta 1¿2 O 3 PbMg 1¿3 Nb 2¿3 O 3 (NBT) and the low-dielectric material (BMT).
