✦ Synopsis

In the title compound, {[Cd(C 8 H 10 O 2 )(C 4 H 6 N 2 ) 2 ]Á2H 2 O} n , each Cd II atom is six-coordinated by two N atoms from two 2-methyl-1H-imidazole (mi) molecules and four O atoms from two cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylate (1,4-chdc) ligands in a distorted octahedral environment. The asymmetric unit consists of two independent mononuclear complex units and two solvent water molecules. Each 1,4-chdc acts as a bischelating ligand that binds two Cd II atoms, thus forming two unique helical chains. These chains are decorated with mi ligands alternately on the two sides. Furthermore, O-HÁ Á ÁO and N-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds link the chains together, forming a three-dimensional supramolecular structure. There are weakinteractions between mi ligands in neighbouring chains at (x, y, z) and (Àx, Ày, 2 À z), with an interplanar distance of 3.62 (2) A ˚.
