✦ Synopsis
In the title compound, [Pb(C~8~H~4~O~4~)(C~24~H~16~N~2~)]~n~, the benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate (1,4-BDC) dianions link the Pb^II^ atoms to form a chain structure. The Pb^II^ atom is coordinated by 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (L) and is also bonded to four 1,4-BDC O atoms, resulting in a very distorted cis-PbN~2~O~4~ octahedron. There are two 1,4-BDC half-anions in the asymmetric unit, both completed by inversion. Aromatic π–π stacking between L ligands in adjacent chains results in a two-dimensional supramolecular layer structure [minimum centroid–centroid separation 3.464 (5) Å].
