✦ Synopsis
The combination of adsorption and catalytic processes with advanced voltammetric measurement schemes constitutes the basis for one of the most sensitive analytical techniques. In this paper we describe an extremely sensitive catalytic-adsorptive stripping voltammetric protocol for ultratrace measurements of platinum. The method is based on coupling the adsorptive accumulation of the platinum formaldoxime with a hydrogen catalytic reaction. Such replacement of formazone with formaldoxime greatly enhances the catalytic response and offers a remarkably low detection limit of 2.5 ϫ 10 Ϫ13 M platinum. A similar use of interfacial accumulation to amplify voltammetric hydrogen catalytic signals should lead to highly sensitive stripping schemes for other metals.
