In the present paper data are reported on the gas-phase hydrogenation of 0 -, m-, and p-xylene and 0 -, m-, and p-ethylmethylbenzene using a pulse reactor. New systems obtained by supporting Pt on AlPO -A1 0 (75/25), pure AlPO and Si02-A1P04 (80120) have been used as catalysfs. ?hJ effect of the redustion temperature of the catalysts and the hydrogen pressure on the selectivity to cis-and trans-dimethylcyclohexanes and ethylmethylcyclohexanes has been investigated. The results obtained are interpreted by assuming a Horiuti-Polanyi mechanism, with suprafacial addition of hydrogen.
