โœฆ Synopsis

Catalytic gasification of coal chars exhibiting isotropic textures has been conducted using chars prepared from four types of coal. Mineral contents and inertinites were separated from the coal macerals using a density separation technique. The coal macerals were impregnated with potassium hydroxide prior to heat treatment to form chars. The state of the char surface and the dispersion of potassium onto the char substrate were examined by SEM and electron probe microanalyser techniques. Macerals of caking coals show greater dispersion of high contents of potassium onto pore walls and enhance gasification reactivity.

The K&O,-catalysed steam gasification of coal chars, obtained by the Supercritical Gas Extraction (SGE) process, is studied. Kinetics experiments used a gravimetric technique at atmospheric pressure and at temperatures ranging from 700 to 800ยฐC. It was found that K&O, is an effective catalyst for st
