TEALE (1867) described a n angioma of the skin i n the parotid region of a female infant aged 4 months but it was not known if the gland was involved, and Clogg (1906) demonstrated a specimen of an angiosarcoma of the parotid to the Society for the Study of Disease in Children, but no authentic case of congenital haemangioma of the parotid has been described F I G . 394.-The child aged four months, showing the swelling in the right parotid region. in the British literature and the tumour is rarely mentioned in surgical o r pathological text-books. The first description was by Eross in 1882, and in the following thirty years a number of cases were added, notably by Hardouin (1go4), Herxheimer '1908), Lewitt (1908), and von Haberer (1910). In 1930 McFarland reviewed the literature, tabulating those which he considered authentic and adding a case of his own which brought the total t o thirtythree. H e noted that girls were affected twice as frequently as boys.
Since then a further number of cases have been described so that, although a rare tumour, it is not of exceptional rarity.
