1. The carotenoids of a gliding filamentous organism containing baeteriochlorophylls a and c were as follows: fl-, y-and retro-dehydro-y-carotene, eehinenone, 4-keto-y-carotene, l'-hydroxy-l',2'-dihydro-y-carotene, O-hexosyl-1 '-hydroxy-1 ',2'-dihydro-y-carotene, 0 -glycosyl-l'-hydroxy-1 ',2'-dihydro-3',4"-didehydro-y-carotene and 0 -hexosyl-4-keto-1 '-hydroxy-1 ',2'-dihydro-3",4'-didehydro-y-carotene.

2. The carotenoid composition was briefly compared with that of other prokaryotic organisms.
