✦ Synopsis
HE end results in the surgical treatment of carcinoma of the stomach can be improved only by earlier diagnosis and more extensive excision of the cancer-bearing portion of the stomach and contiguous organs when the condition is encountered in the operating room.
A case of a 74-year-old man subjected to subtotal gastrectomy and partial hepatectomy on March 13, 1947, is presented to show that adequate resection of the stomach and adjacent organs with cancer-bearing tissue can prolong life and increase the patient's comfort although the primary lesion is large and the liver is invaded. T h e technique of partial hepatectomy is illustrated.
