✦ Synopsis
R tion of prostates from autopsies of adult patients often reveal carcinoma that was not recognized during life. The sampling of the prostate by routine examination of 1 or 2 microscopic sections, however, does not always reveal the carcinoma. Knowledge of the frequencies in various age groups of the early, incipient, or focal carcinomas of the prostate and of the clinically manifest, overt, or diffuse carcinomas of the prostate might contribute information as to the natural history of the dis- ease. This retrospective study was undertaken to ascertain the frequency of carcinoma in veteran patients as observed on routine examination of the prostate at autopsy and the possible relationship between focal and diffuse prostatic carcinomas.
