✦ Synopsis

T h e carcinogenic activities of smoke condensates f r o m experimental cigarettes, the paper of which had been treated with a m m o n i u m sulfamate (AS), were compared on mouse skin with the activities of condensates from untreated control cigarettes in two tests. During most of the test periods, the tars from the experimental cigarettes produced significantly fewer tumors than those f r o m the controls; toward the end, these differences decreased, a n d the differences in final tumor incidence were not statistically significant. The time course of tumor development, however, did differ significantly ( p < 0.05), and implied a reduction in cocarcinogen concentration.
