✦ Synopsis
Carbons were prepared from anthracene, phenanthrene, and their mixtures by first charring in a bomb to 55O"C, followed by coking in a flowing nitrogen stream at 9OO"C, and then heating in helium to 2500°C. The cokes and 2500°C carbons were characterized using X-ray diffraction, gas adsorotion. densitv. and magnetic susceDtibilitv measurements. All the cokes were found to be highly graphitizadle when'heated t, 2500°C. _ .
