โฆ Synopsis
We have long wanted to inaugurate a correspondence column in CBMH. The scientific material has not so far achieved that, but, as other journals have discovered before us, sex and death do not fail in this regard. The American Journal of Psychiatry attracted probably its largest postbag after an article by Paul Appelbaum and Linda Gorgenson (1991) seeking to raise the question of whether, even when, sexual relations could ever become ethical between a patient and former therapist (American Journal of Psychiatry, 1992). A flicker of such interest was raised in CBMH by an article on treatment of sex offenders (Criminal Behaviour and Mental Health, 1996). Our editorial on 'Capital punishment' has troubled some contributors and readers more. Further debate is always welcome -and in many ways is the principal purpose of a journal such as this.
