✦ Synopsis

C mon gynecological cancer occurring predominantly in elderly women, unfortunately is in many cases diagnosed late and treated improperly. I n reviewing the literature and local experience, we have been impressed with the inconsistencies of treatment and the variability of results.s,4, 11, 1 4 , 1 9 , * * Cancer of the vulva is the most accessible of the gynecological cancers and should be the most amenable to treatment, yet such is not always the case. T h e apparent cure rate ranges from 0 to 75707, 18922 and is directly related to the extent of the lesion and the type of therapy. T h e diffuse lymphatic drainage of the vulva to involve bilateral lymph nodes makes extensive surgical treatment necessary,4 yet the advanced age of many patients has resulted in a vast number of therapeutic compromises.17
