โฆ Synopsis
Wireless camera with fuel cell system
I n the US, Millennium Cell and its affili- ate Gecko Energy Technologies have demonstrated a fuel cell powered wireless camera prototype system, with infrared sensing and audio capabilities. This is the first time Millennium Cell's Hydrogen on Demand ยฎ sodium borohydride fuel technology and Gecko's PowerSkinโข fuel cell material have been integrated into a hydrogen 'battery'.
The battery demonstrates the potential for fuel cells in low-power, long run-time devices. Furthermore, this equipment fills a critical need in homeland security and defence applications, such as wireless sensors and networks, and remote surveillance equipment, which require sources of power that last for longer periods. The system was on display at the recent Homeland Defense Conference, held at the US Army's Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County, New Jersey.
Earlier this year Millennium Cell and Gecko began a three-year program to collaborate on the development and commercialization of portable fuel cell systems for military, medical, industrial and consumer electronics applications [FCB, April].
These products pair Millennium Cell's patented 'Hydrogen on Demand' technology with Gecko's thin planar PEM fuel cells, to create a hydrogen battery that is lighter, smaller and less expensive than traditional batteries.
