t the annual gathering in 2006 of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, rock star and activist Bono, standing beside corporative executives, announced the formation of project "(Red)"-a partnership with American Express, Converse, Gap, and other companies to market products under the Red brand and donate a portion of the proceeds to combat HIV and AIDS in Africa. In other sessions, world leaders from business, government, and civil society welcomed a significant role for corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs in tackling poverty and disease.
