Calls for Restrictions on Canadian Gas Exports to the United States

he Province of Ontario has written to the government of Canada criticizing the level of gas exports to the United States and Canada's obligations under the Free Trade Agreement (FI'A) and the North American Free Trade Agreement ( N A n A ) to proportionately share Canada's energy supplies with the United States should shortfalls develop. Ontario is Canada's most populous province, the industrial headand of the country. Ontario relies almost exclusively on gas produced from Western Canada. It has demanded that the federal government act on these concerns.

Canada's new federal government achieved victory at the polls last fall due in large part to the overwhelming support of Ontario voters. Will a gratehl government reward Ontario for its support by acceding to its demands and limit further exports to the United States?
