✦ Synopsis

Techniques based on evolutionary paradigms can provide efficient solutions to a wide variety of problems. A vast literature exists on the topic of evolutionary computing (EC), and most recently a number of studies have reported the usefulness of the EC paradigm in solving problems of importance to the parallel and distributed computing community. Thus, this special issue seeks to provide an opportunity for researchers to explore connections between EC and parallel and distributed computing and the benefits gained from such cross-fertilization.

We seek papers that are cross-disciplinary in nature (i.e., not pure EC). Specific topics can include, but are not limited to, parallel evolutionary computing paradigms (genetic algorithms, simulated annealing, hybrid techniques, etc.); partitioning and scheduling (static and dynamic) based on EC; parallel/distributed platforms for evolutionary computations; techniques for integrating conventional parallel and distributed and EC-based paradigms; tools and algorithms for parallelizing EC techniques; and application case studies combining EC and parallel computing.

The field of mobile and wireless networking is reemerging amid unprecedented growth in the scale and diversity of computer networking. However, many of today's wireless local area networks need an infrastructure network. Infrastructure networks not only provide access to other networks, but also inc
