โฆ Synopsis
Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing on Distributed Multimedia Systems Papers are solicited for a special issue of the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing (JPDC) on engineering of distributed multimedia systems (DMS) to be published in September, 1998.
Integrating computer, telecommunication, and multimedia resources, DMS provide the technical backbones of today's fast growing global digital economy. Their applications in such areas as learning, business operations and management in the private and public sectors, and entertainment are thriving. The burgeoning diversity, sophistication, and scale of the applications constantly challenge the engineering of DMS and their enabling technologies. Continuing advancement on their modeling, design, implementation, and analysis methodologies and techniques are essential to realizing broad adoptions and diffusions of DMS.
This special issue will include original articles on different aspects of engineering distributed multimedia systems. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: multimedia content acquisition, authoring, representation, modeling, allocation, and retrieval; DMS and Internet/Intranet; Real-time DMS; networks, databases, servers, user interfaces, and workflow management in DMS; economics, performance, reliability, and security of DMS; DMS applications in electronic commerce, CSCW, education, health care, media arts, and global management; modeling, analysis, design, and integration and management paradigms, methods, techniques, tools, and support for DMS.
Authors should follow the JPDC manuscript format as described in the Information for Authors at the end of each issue of JPDC. Five copies of complete double-spaced manuscripts should be sent to the first co-editor, Dr. Olivia R.
