โœฆ Synopsis

Recent developments in hippocampal studies in rodents and primates including humans have highlighted a variety of differing functions of the hippocampus. The neuronal dynamics of hippocampal neurons are also known to be highly nonlinear, suggesting possibilities of novel types of neural computation. Thus, it is time to meet together to explore from various viewpoints computational theories of the hippocampus. This Special Issue is aimed at highlighting computational theories of the hippocampus in memory, spatial function, memory-guided behavior, and intelligence. This issue will also include selected papers in the special session "Computational Theories of the Functions of the Hippocampus" of the 2004 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN'04) by expanding their papers for the journal. Areas will include: Neural dynamics in learning and memory Memory consolidation and sleep Interactions of multiple memory systems Cognitive functions such as spatial and language processing Executive control and context in goal-oriented behaviors
