โœฆ Synopsis


The success of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools in engineering design has been witnessed in the past three decades. Advanced CAD tools help build virtual prototypes of complex products (e.g. automobile, airplane, and electronic appliances) and become a critical enabling technology in design processes. Most recently, materials design has been recognized as one of the important elements in concurrent product development, where bulk-scale structural design needs to closely couple with micro-structure and materials design and optimization. The concept of multi-scale systems has been important in modern product realization. Decisions made at nanoscale configurations affect physical properties of new materials thus the structure and topology optimization at meso-and macro-scale. Therefore, nowadays, the design of a product means the design of a complex system.
