✦ Synopsis

Using the Fresnel factors and the principle of reciprocity, the portion of fluorescent dye radiation trapped by a waveguide has been calculated. In a cylindrical waveguide the captured Iight is divided into guided and tu~eliing beams. Moreover, a portion of the trapped light cannot leave the waveguide with face pianes normal to its axis, i.e., it becomes of the inner type. For an adsorbed dye and a quartz waveguide with side walls immersed in water and face planes bordering on air, upon evanescent wave excitation the portions of trapped, guided and inner beams account for 24.7, 4.2 and 12.46, respectively, of the emitted light.
