## Abstract In this paper, we reexamine the well‐known Bragg fibers from a very simple, analytical point of view. It is found that with a very small number of cladding regions one can obtain modal characteristics of Bragg fibers which are similar to those of the step‐index standard fiber under the

Abstract
In this paper, we present a new method, based on the theory of mode analysis, to calculate the absorption efficiency of symmetric or offset double‐clad optical fibers. Both symmetric and offset conditions have been analyzed. In principle, our results are consistent with, but more accurate than, those of previous ray‐optics methods. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract We present a computation method for the self‐impedance and radiation efficiency of a dipole near a lossy dielectric cylinder with arbitrary cross section by using a spectrum of two‐dimensional (2‐D) solutions. The 2‐D solutions for the spectral Green's functions of the cylinder as well
