โฆ Synopsis
The weight function method normally applied to fracture mechanics problems is applied to problems without cracks. A procedure is described which allows the stresses in the surrounding of inclusions to be computed. The method is applied to compute stresses near inclusions and phase-transformation zones in infinite bodies. The results are in good agreement with analytical and FE solutions.

A closed-form weight function formula is used to calculate the stress intensity factor of an edge crack in a finite elastic disc. The result is applied to the problems of a rotating disc and an infinite long cylinder under thermal shock.
