โœฆ Synopsis

Monthly sampling of calcium and magnesium in the in-and outflons of Dal Lake revealed high concentrations of both during summer. The monthly inputs, outputs and retentions of these alkaline earths were estimated. The lake on an overall basis showed the retention of calcium but not of magnesium. This was suspected to be related and affected by variable flushing rates of water. Most of the calcium and magnesium was present in sediments and only a small fraction in the water and in macrophytcs. The calcium balance is discussed in relation to the P-balance.

The relationship between phosphorus concentration and estimated phosphorus load in Lake Dal-a marl lake-is described for the past decade. The concentration of this elcmcnt in t#he lake system remained constant during this period although the P load increased by about 40 yo. This phenomenon is discus
