## Abstract Optical and NMR methods are presented for the identification of cysteine ligands in Cdโ€substituted metalloproteins, in particular those containing zincโ€fingerlike motifs, using Cdโ€substituted __Desulfovibrio gigas__ rubredoxin (Cdโ€Rd) as a model [Cd(CysS)~4~]^2โ€^ complex. The ^113^Cd NM
