✦ Synopsis
The CADCAM 86 exhibition held at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK was a popular and well attended one. According to the organizers, over ] 6 000 people passed through the exhibition to look at the more than 200 exhibitors. The exhibitors ranged from the large well known international companies like Computervision and Intergraph to smaller companies specializing in one area of CADCAM, like the graphics boards producers, benchmark Technologies and software companies such as Cambridge Graphics.
There was a vast variety of different products on show, covering a whole range of CADCAM needs. There were plotters, workstations, NC lathes, displays, digitizers, mainframes, microcomputers and a plethora of software packages, which promised to aid the design and manufacture of almost anything imaginable.
Most stands had demonstrations of equipment running, although some obviously felt that a few leaflets were sufficient to interest passers-by. It was difficult to get near the most popular stands as there were crowds of interested engineers/designers/managers, all clutching the ubiquitous plastic bags bulging with glossy brochures.
