✦ Synopsis

Chains of AlAs~4~ tetrahedra have been detected in the intermetallic compound Ca~3~AlAs~3~. Hence, it could be shown for the first time that such groups of chains also occur in Zintl phases—and not only in silicates and polyphosphates.
