โœฆ Synopsis

we modify the extensible rod theory due to Coleman et al. [I] to include thermal expansion effects. We study the bifurcations of the resulting equilibrium equations under both traction and displacement boundary conditions and find both sub-and supercritical pitchfork bifurcations.

We consider the thermoelastic and viscoelastic contact problem of two rods and prove the existence of a weak solution using a penalization method and compensated compactness. Moreover, for the thermoelastic contact we show that the weak solution converges to zero exponentially as time goes to infini
