✦ Synopsis

native modes of administration must be sought. Administration on oral mucosa could be feasible for a drug that may be destroyed in the stomach or intestines or that undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism. Preliminary data from dogs have suggested that atipamezole could be absorbed from oral mucosa. Therefore this study was performed to clarify the clinical applicability, pharmacokinetics, and systemic effects of buccally administered atipamezole in healthy volunteers.
