✦ Synopsis

It is widely held that the renowned Filippo Brunelleschi in 1409 devised and successfully executed a trick to transform personal identity. This article shows that the standard account of the trick is fiction because of its psychological improbability and logical inconsistency. The origin of the traditional and fallacious interpretation of the account is briefly discussed.
