ABB motors in the UK are now being sold via the Comp-AC web site. A selection of motors has joined the low power AC drives already available through the E-commerce web site www.comp-ac.co.uk. ABB reckons it's the only company on the Internet offering the direct purchase of both motors and drives via distribution. Initially, motors will only be available via the UK, French and German Comp-AC web sites, although ABB plans to extend this to all 29 countries presently on-line. Visitors to the site are greeted by a map from which they can select Motors & Drives, Motors Only, or Drives Only. Depending on this selection, the map will change to highlight the neareSt distributor capable of providing what has been requested. "This is significant new channel for us in the UK," explains Nigel Evenett, manager for Motors and Rotating Machines. "It is one in which we are working extremely closely with our ABB Motor Service Partners. We see this site as reinforcing the added value services which the ABB Motor Service Partners have committed to under their exclusive agreement with ABB." The arrival of motors into the Comp-AC process is an important milestone for the project which was launched in 1998 to symbolise an easier way of finding, selecting, buying, installing and supporting electrical products. "Comp-AC is synonymous with low power AC drives, but the intention was always that Comp-AC would be a vehicle for supplying all component-type products to the customer via distribution," says lan Rennie, vice president Business Unit Drives. "The integration of motors means that we are now able to offering customers a packaged solution with the same guarantees which each of the six service offerings promise." The six services offered by Comp-AC include, a single telephone line for instant ordering or advice; the facility to pay by credit card; rapid and guaranteed delivery; easy to use documentation; round-the-clock support; and worldwide warranty protection.
