✦ Synopsis

Broken-symmetry orbitals were developed to study the electronic states representing the diabatic behavior of electrons. It is shown that a closed-shell system with symmetry is represented by the singlet spin-projected unrestricted Hartree᎐Fock Ž . Ž . UHF solution in the quasidiabatic state, which gives rise to a spin-density wave SDW . An analysis is further given to clarify origin of occurrence of the SDW. It is found that the occurrence of the SDW is derived from different orbital interactions, which are the exchange repulsion, the exchange mixing, and the polarization mixing. The appearance of the SDW is discussed from this respect in trans-polyacetylene.

## Abstract Isostructural clusters exhibit contrasting magnetic properties when the number of electrons differs. Surprisingly, the same is true even for isoelectronic cages (e.g. __O~h~__ B~6~H~6~^2βˆ’^ is diatropic, whereas __O~h~__ Si~6~^2βˆ’^ is paratropic) or for those with different substitutents

## Abstract General expressions are obtained for the energies of complex and real forms of any hydrogenic orbital (__n, l, m__) in a cluster of point charges of any geometry. This is a perturbation calculation of hydrogenic Rydberg orbitals in a one‐electron hard core approximation. A model calcula
