✦ Synopsis
Cross-type specimens consisting of two zinc whiskers with a metallic contact at their crossing point were investigated. By applying a control current to one of the whiskers (the 'controlling whisker') the superconductivity in the other whisker (the 'measuring whisker') could be continuously weakened. This yields a voltage-current characteristic with continuously adjustable properties. The weakening of superconductivity seems to be caused by a flooding of the measuring whisker by non-equilibrium quasiparticles generated in the controlling whisker.
