In this paper I consider the views of R. B. Brandt on the nature of rational action and rational desire and the relation between these concepts and those of intrinsic value and morality. I shall first present briefly Brandt's views on rational action and desire as they are presented in his article 'Rationality, Egoism, and Morality' and in his more recent work, A Theory of the Good and the Right.
