โœฆ Synopsis

tocopherol acetate (500 mg), and compression in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to 2 atmospheres absolute. Six control dogs were not treated. All dogs were transferred to an ICU. Critical care management and neurologic scoring was performed for up to 7 days by blinded observers. Neurologic scoring was done every hour using a positive scoring scale. All dogs at the time of death underwent autopsies for both gross and microscopic analysis. Mean survival time for the control dogs was 6.5 h + 3.7, and for the treated dogs it was 73.9 h + 65.4 (P = .001). The highest total neurologic score achieved also was statistically significant (P = .021). Three of the treatment dogs awakened from a comatose state, while none of the control dogs did. Two of the treated dogs did well neurologically. We conclude that the treatment regimen improved survival time and appeared to have a beneficial neurologic effect.
